In the book One day in the life story of Ivan Denisovich written by Alexander Solzhenitsyn there are many dissimilar moods that can be taken in. Even though man living in a gulag you could larn a few laughs, as well as a lot of thwarting and sadness. The author creates the tone and mood of the book by the role of word choice, metaphors, imagery, or actions. This book is based on a time span of one day of a mans life in a Russian gulag. A gulag being a forced labor camp where prisoners completed huge architectural projects including the White Sea-Baltic Canal, the Moscow-Volga Canal, the Baikal-Amur main railroad line, numerous hydroelectric stations, and hundreds of roadstead and industrial complexes in highly remote regions of Siberia and northern Russia.
        The source way tone is create in the paragraph was by the actions of the guards. In this paragraph the author talks about when prisoners in the gulag would receive a pathway otherwise known as a package. The guards would go through everything pouring things out of containers, they would bring down things up, and break things apart. Especially, if there were homemade goods, the guards would pull the food apart and take a bite for themselves.
